MANILA, Philippines – Haiyan Updates: BBC conducted an ambush interview with PNoy Aquino and netizens reacted with sarcasm and criticism, especially to his statement that LGU is the backbone, and that they should provide the necessary information for the national government.
Netizens pointed out that he was hand-washing when he should be acknowledging his responsibility.
The interviewer asked point blank:
“How do you respond to the criticisms that your government reacted too slowly?”
The president was visibly rattled by the question because he momentarily paused:
“Well, I would like to ask these critics, what else we could have done given the resources we do have and given the magnitude of the problem.”
The BBC interviewer stated:
“I have spoken to people in Tacloban that told me, they were without fresh water for a week, without food for a week, and they were getting no supplies. Is that an appropriate response?”
The president said:
“Perhaps, you should ask the Local Government of Tacloban ….”
