MANILA, Philippines – Mary Jean Lastimosa has finally won Miss Universe in the recently concluded Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant last March 30, 2014. It was the third time the beauty from North Cotabato joined the contest. Ms. Lastimosa will represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in 2014.
Mary Jean Lastimosa might well be the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown. The first was Gloria Diaz, and the second was Margie Moran. Filipina beauties did well in the past year’s international competitions. Miss World is Miss Philippines, Megan Young, while Ariela Arida was 3rd Runner-up in the Miss Universe Pageant.
Meanwhile, the Martilyo Gang struck again at the SM Mall of Asia last Sunday, March 30, 2014. It was the second time that the same modus operandi was used by thieves to rob Jewelry stores inside the malls in Metro Manila. Reportedly, one of the suspects was arrested and is now under police custody. He has identified his cohorts.
As these two were occurring, a more serious national concern was happening concerning the Chinese government’s view of the delivery of supplies to the Philippine marines at the disputed Ayungin Shoal. The Philippines has brought the case to the United Nations but Chinese officials protested saying that the Philippines has occupied, illegally, a Chinese territory in the South China Sea, reportedly. The disputed Ayungin Shoal is closer to the Philippine Islands and China’s claim seems inappropriate.
