The cancellation of two soap operas “All my Children” and “One Life to Live” is final. This was announced by ABC, according to entertainment news sites , April 14, 2011.

All My Children” and “One Life to Live” have been two of the longest running soap operas created by Agnes Nixon in 19 70 and 1968 respectively. Susan Lucci, a senior cast, said that she “loved playing  Erika Kane.”  Lucci bagged a Daytime Emmy for the role in 1999.

The show has been part of many American households including Kelly Ripa’s, who met husband Mark Consuelos in the set in 1995. Previously Ripa expressed her concern saying: “…What are you going to replace it with?”

After more than a thousand episodes however, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” soap operas’ cancellation is final. A generation is closing its chapters.  ABC announced that they have based the decision on “…extensive research to what today’s viewers want…”

As a fitting tribute, this is a poem, written by Agnes Nixon, the show’s creator.

The Great and the Least

The Rich and the Poor,

The Weak and the Strong,

In Sickness and in Health,

In Joy and Sorrow,

In Tragedy and Triumph

You are ALL MY CHILDREN.
