MANILA, PhilippinesThor Dulay, 32, got a standing ovation from the four judges of The Voice of the Philippines Reality TV Singing Competition this Saturday, June 15, 2013.

Thor Dulay is from Davao del Norte and is a backup singer of Vice Ganda, a comedian-actress. Thor was teary-eyed when he revealed that it was his mother’s wish to watch him perform on stage.

He further stated that during the few times that he was able to perform, his mother was so proud of him, like he was some famous singer. His mother died, though, before she could watch him participate on The Voice of the Philippines.

He sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” with so much passion, and had nailed the high notes that all of the 4 judges, Lea Salonga, Apl.de.Ap, Bamboo and Sarah Geronimo turned their chairs around indicating their desire to coach him.

Thor chose Apl.de.Ap as his mentor-coach. The other contestants who made it through the auditions were Darrly Shy, Deborah Victa, and Cherry Mae Berbana.

Darryl Shy and Cherry Mae Berbana chose Team Lea, while Deborah Victa chose Team Bamboo.

The Voice of the Philippines aired its first season this Saturday, and TV viewers expect it could duplicate the success of X Factor Philippines during its run last year. With the competence and expertise of the 4 judges, The Voice would have a great chance of doing so.
