Reactions to Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr and Jennifer Lopez as judges in American Idol‘s next season has been one of optimism. Are they the Magic Combination that would put back the reality TV show to the No. 1 spot it has once been?

Randy Jackson has been in the entertainment business for more than 2 decades now. He was with the rock band Journey previously. (It would be awesome if he could invite Journey with new lead vocalist, Arnel Pineda, to perform “Don’t Stop Believin’ in one of their shows.) He had also a seat on the panel of judges for several years, so he should know what he should be doing when the LIVE show starts airing.

The judges are all singers, as well, so they definitely know what genuine talent is. Jennifer Lopez is a seasoned performer, and so are Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.

Jlo’s sensitivity and intuitive grasp of contestants would blend well with Keith’s good ear for music, and Harry’s talent of spotting the contestant’s strong points.

Harry mentored previously in one of American Idol’s episodes, while Keith and Jlo were previous judges; Keith for one season and JLo for two seasons.

Having one female judge also would lessen friction among the judges, just like what happened last season when Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj had petty arguments during some of the episodes.

Jennifer Lopez said it well when she reportedly disclosed that the show is not about the judges but about the contestants and how they can be nurtured as singers and performers.

American Idol Season 13 looks forward to a better season with Randy Jackson as mentor; Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez as judges.
