London Film Festival: Nora Aunor’s “Thy Womb” To Be Screened at the 57th BFI London Film Festival

MANILA, PhilippinesNora Aunor’sThy Womb” will be screened at the 57th BFI London Film Festival, on October 11, 13, & 18, 2013.

The BFI London Film Festival is a prestigious international event, which features various cinematic works of art from all over the world. It also collaborates with different organizations to promote the film industry. The film festival is where, only, the Best of the Bests are featured. The festival lasts from October 9 to 20, 2013.

According to BFI’s official website:

“The Festival will screen a total of 234 fiction and documentary features, including 22 World Premieres, 16 International Premieres, 29 European Premieres and 20 Archive films. There will also be screenings of 134 live action and animated shorts.”

The BFI London Film Festival is star-studded with numerous guest celebrities, some of them are:

  • Tom Hanks
  • John Lee Hancock
  • Steve McQueen
  • Sandra Bullock
  • Ralph Fiennes
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt
  • Kate Winslett
  • Faysal Ahmed

To date, there are only two Filipino films featured in this prestigious festival. First, is the late Lino Brocka’sManila in the Claws of Light’ (Maynila Sa Mga Kuko Ng Liwanag), which starred Hilda Koronel, Bembel Roco, and Tommy Abuel. The film has been restored this 2013 for the festival.

The second film is Nora Aunor’s “Thy Womb”, directed by Brillante Mendoza. The film has already garnered several awards in international film festivals for Nora Aunor as Best Actress, and Brillante Mendoza as Best Director.  Bembol Rocco, Lovi Poe, and Mercedes Cabral also shared stellar roles in “Thy Womb”. The movie’s plot revolves around Shaleha, a Muslim midwife in Southern Philippines, who ‘sacrificed’ for love.

Bembol Rocco starred in both BFI London featured movies, “Manila in the Claws of Light’ and “Thy Womb”.

Nora Aunor, the one and only Superstar of Philippine cinema, has been in semi-retirement, but with “Thy Womb”, her star continues to illuminate the local and international film industry with her outstanding performance.
