MANILA, Philippines – Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun’s “My Love from the Star” becomes a big hit in the Philippines as the series started airing on GMA 7, one of the country’s premier TV networks. Kim Soo Hyun even trended on Twitter for the days that the series was aired.
“My Love from the Star” was such a success in China, that Kim paid a visit to the country. His screaming and adoring fans greeted him anywhere he went. Recently, he also visited Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and Hongkong, making the 26 year old actor-singer an international Asian star.
Kim Soo Hyun has acted on movies, such as, “The Thieves” and “Secretly, Greatly.” He sings and models, as well, in South Korea, and has been featured as one of most in demand commercial models. Kim’s previous TV series, “Dream High” and “Moon Embracing the Sun” were also highly successful. His global popularity continues to increase as more TV audience watched his drama-comedy TV series.
“My Love from the Star” also stars Jun Ji-hyun who portrays Kim Soo Hyun’s love interest. Kim plays Do Min Joon, an alien, while Jun Ji-hyun plays Cheon Song Yi, a self-centered actress. The story revolves around the development of their romance, which – apparently – seems to be tragic because Do Min Joon has to return to the star from where he came from.
“My Love from the Star” received various nominations to the 50th Baeksang Art Awards in South Korea. The nominations are for Kim Soo Hyun for Best Drama Actor and Jun Ji-hyun for Best Drama Actress, and the series for TV’s Best Drama. Kim Soo Hyun was also nominated for best new actor for “Secretly Greatly.” Awarding of the winners will be on May 27, 2014.
Reportedly, the series topped the rankings of Philippine TV shows in the same time slot. What would happen next to Do Min Joon and Cheon Song Yi in “My Love from the Star”?
