Eat Bulaga’s tribute to Dolphy featured the King of Comedy singing with Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon.
Eat Bulaga is the longest local noontime TV variety show with almost 10,000 episodes, and is on its 33rd year, this 2012. In 2005, Eat Bulaga also won the Asian Television Awards in Singapore.
In the comedy genre, next to the King of Comedy is the trio Tito, Vic and Joey. Tito, Vic and Joey shared the same type of comedy that Dolphy entertained people with; the comedy that comes out as natural and unassuming.
During the noontime TV variety show, Vic Sotto– apparently controlling his tears – asked everyone to pause for a moment to pray for the repose of Dolphy’s soul.
It was a touching scene, with everyone praying in silence for Dolphy. It was one of those rare moments that the usual fun-filled show was enveloped with an eerie silence of mourning.
Popular singer, Gary V. sang “Father’s Love,” while Dolphy’s partner, a teary-eyed Zsa Zsa Padilla sang “Through the Years” as a tribute to an artist, who have entertained millions of Filipinos all over the world with his music and films.
