MANILA, Philippines – During Dolphy’s wake and tribute Susan Roces, actress and wife of the late King of Action Movies, Fernando Poe Jr, talked about Dolphy’s many lovable attributes. This was disclosed by local news July 13, 2012.
Susan Roces and Amalia Fuentes were the reigning queens of the movie industry in the 1960s. Susan had worked with Dolphy on many occasions and she has been a witness of the humility and generosity of the King of Comedy.
She recounted how Dolphy would help new comers by giving them pointers on a lot of things about acting, and even assistance in landing roles and jobs.
Susan had only good words for Dolphy, like anyone else in the movie industry. She said that she already misses him, and that she wishes him a happy trip.
Maricel Soriano also reminisced about the “John and Marsha” days when she played Dolphy and Nida Blanca’s daughter. “John and Marsha” was the no. 1 TV comedy series during that era, and is a by-word in every Filipino’s household. Maricel said that she had a genuine father in Dolphy, and that she still considers him his real dad.
Actress Alma Moreno, Dolphy’s partner for 8 years, showed up too. She praised Dolphy for his caring and generous ways. Their son, Vandolph, stayed with his dad after the separation. Vandolph still seemed not to have come to terms with his father’s death.
There were many celebrities during Dolphy’s wake who showed support and love to the Comedy King. This demonstrated that amidst his fame and fortune, he was a down-to-earth person, who was able to love everyone.
Dolphy would be buried on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 3 p.m. in Taguig at the Heritage Memorial Park.
