The comments and reactions to Jessica Sanchez’s “Proud Mary” Top 5 Performance from the American Idol 2012 Judges, May 2, was good but she was not given a standing ovation.
Jessica Sanchez was “sexy” in her mini-dress and long beads, and she cavorted gamely to Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.” She looked good with her own version of the song and did the right moves, but perhaps the judges wanted more “angst” or “wildness” from her.
Jennifer Lopez said:
“You’re so grown-up there, it’s crazy! You were a little bit of Tina, a little Beyonce.”
Steven Tyler commented:
“The only thing that gives experience a run for its money is a 16-year-old. I’m hearing the blues come out of you.”
Randy Jackson’s comment was:
“This performance was okay for me, barely okay. You took on probably the biggest dragon of the night. … It didn’t really quite sit with me.”
To which Jennifer Lopez replied:
“You can’t compare a 16-year-old with Tina Turner performing Proud Mary in her heyday.”
