The BTS K-Pop Boy Band has visited the GRAMMY Museum on September 19, 2018, and they were interviewed by Scott Goldman. The interview went well with the BTS members sharing their experiences about their loyal ARMY and many more.
BTS has made history for K-pop and Asian artists in the International music industry as:
• The first K-Pop boy band to rank #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 Chart
• Recipient of 2 Social Media Awards for 2 consecutive years- 2017 & 2018. No other Asian Artist has ever achieved this feat
These are only 2 achievements of the phenomenal South Korean 7-member group. BTS has risen from obscurity to legendary in a span of 5 years.
In one of BTS’ interview, they have expressed their desire to receive a GRAMMY recognition, and with the millions of ARMY all over the world, this could be possible.
But what’s the GRAMMY? The GRAMMY, also termed Grammy, or Gramophone Award, and it’s the most prestigious award in the recording industry.
So, what is the process of a GRAMMY nomination and how can one become an awardee? Unlike the Billboard awards, the selection of GRAMMY recipients has a more complicated process. It’s an annual event equivalent to the Academy Awards for films or the Emmy’s.
It recognizes the great achievements of artists in the music industry. In this aspect, BTS qualifies because the boy band made history that has never happened in the music industry. What’s more startling is the fact that they created music in their own language, using their own Korean fashion and original moves.
Except for a few English terms, music fans don’t understand the lyrics of the song, but ARMY loves them anyhow.
On February 10, 2019 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, prominent artists will be awarded based on their performances from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018. This would be the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
Some of the GRAMMY Awards given are:
• Album of the Year
• Best New Artist
• Record of the Year
• Song of the Year
In these categories, BTS can be nominated for the Best New Artist as they have established their identity in the U.S. music industry this 2017 & 2018.
Media companies may submit an entry online to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and then the physical copy is submitted to NARAS. Afterwards, the entry is reviewed by around 150 experts and determined whether they qualify. The next step is for the voting members to choose their selections. Then the 5 entries with the most votes are listed as nominees.
To determine the winner in each category, the NARAS Voting Members can vote in 9 of the 30 fields. The members are encouraged not to vote base on popularity, album sales or other aspects but based on quality alone.
In this aspect, ARMY may not have the power to vote.
However, becoming a nominee alone is a superb honor for BTS in case they make it to the top 5 finalists.
Bighit Entertainment may have to inquire how it can go about submitting the entries for BTS.
Other GRAMMY Awards include:
• Music Educator Award
• GRAMMY Legend Award
• Technical GRAMMY Award
• GRAMMY Hall Of Fame
10 more days and the submission of entries will end. Hopefully, Bighit Entertainment can read this and help fulfill the dreams of the BTS boys to receive a GRAMMY.
