Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine’s duet of “Islands in the Stream” in the American Idol 2012 Top 8 performance show got great comments from the AI season 11 judges, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. This was observed in the show last week, April 2012.
“Islands in the Stream” was sung by popular country singer Kenny Rogers and vivacious belter Dolly Parton, and was a big hit in the 1980s. During the Top 8 performance show of the American Idol Season 11, Colton Dixon sang “Time after Time” by Cyndi Lauper, and then did a duet with Skylar Laine. He was also lauded for his solo performance.
Colton Dixon earned these comments for his solo:
Steven said: “You nailed it.”
Jennifer said: “It was amazing. I really like it.”
Steven said: “You guys (referring to Phillip Phillips) took these songs and you made them your own…”
Colton invited his fans on his Facebook wall to buy the song’s iTunes:
“Be sure to get Time After Time on iTunes!!!!! Glad you guys enjoyed it!”
Reportedly, Colton was not supposed to audition for American Idol Season 11, but the judges urged him to audition, when he accompanied his sister Schyler to audition. He did with David Cook’s song, “Permanent” and is now with the Top 7 finalists of this season, while his sister got eliminated during the Las Vegas rounds.
He was also able to enter AI season 10 with his sister, Schyler. They were eliminated before they reached the Top 24 of that season.
Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet‘s duet; however, was the only AI duet that got the standing ovation during that performance show.
