“Star Trek” director, J.J. Abrams, is now set, reportedly, to direct “Star Wars: Episode VII,” The Wrap said.
Previously, since J.J. Abrams is the director of “Star Trek”, he may have expressed his desire of not directing “Star Wars” because of the perceived rivalry between the two sci-fi series.
Fans’ reactions range from disbelief to pleasant surprise.
“J.J. Abrams is directing both Star Wars and Star Trek? Is that even possible? The gods must be crazy. You’re usually either a “Star Wars” fan or a “Star Trek” aficionado but not both.”
The fan’s reaction is extreme though because if a person is a sci-fi fan, then he would love both movies.
“Star Wars” is a multi-billion franchise that had spanned decades of film making history. The unprecedented prequel is the story of young Anakin Skywalker and his slow transition from the good to become one of films’ worst villains, Darth Vader. The older filmed trilogy of Luke and Leia was the sequel to Anakin’s story.
Disney bought the franchise from George Lucas and plans to grant “Star Wars” fans their wish with the release of Episode VII in 2015, or earlier.
Oscar winner, Michael Arndt, was tasked to write the script for “Star Wars: Episode VII.” Now, with J.J. Abrams as director, the next problem would be the cast. The original cast included Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. It would be interesting to see who would be included in Episode VII.
Harrison Ford had expressed his interest in appearing in the film. In his younger days, Ford played Han Solo, the ‘side-kick’ of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. The rest of the dead Jedi could also appear in the spirit form, as they usually do like Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin (Darth Vader), himself. There are a few more characters who could appear again in Episode VII namely; Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda, Jabba the Hutt, and many more interesting characters.
The spectacular 6 episodes of “Star Wars” seemed not to satisfy fans who could not get enough of the movie. Episode VII would surely be a huge global blockbuster in 2015 under the able hands of Director J.J. Abrams and writer Michael Arndt.
To original fans out there, who may be in their late fifties now, and for new, younger fans, here comes “Star Wars: Episode VII.”
