Taylor Hicks, the American Idol season 5 Winner, shared his perspective on the crucial role of choosing the right song for the popular singing competition.

He recalled how he stood his ground in not singing his coronation song because he didn’t like it.

Jessica in another interview revealed that she was also given the choice but not too many songs to choose from within a 3-day period.

Phillip Phillips’ coronation songHome” did not only earn a standing ovation from the judges, but has landed too on the Top 1 for American Idol iTunes and Top 2 on Billboard Hot songs downloads.

In the interview, Taylor Hicks had good words for Jessica and Phillip. He said about Jessica:

“She’s an 80-year-old black woman soul singer trapped in this little girl’s body. She has a really long great road ahead of her as a singer and a performer.”

For Phillip, he stated:

“I never thought in a million years that Idol would incorporate some of the ideas of The Rhythm of the Saints or kind of a Paul SimonGraceland feel.”

This can be a pointer for American Idol hopefuls, who would like to make it big on season 12 of American Idol. Auditions would start on June 7, 2012 in California.
