Akon, the internationally acclaimed R&B singer and record producer, is presumably a great fan of Jessica Sanchez because of his statements regarding the leading American Idol 2012 contestant. According to E! News, Akon said in an interview:
“I know I shouldn’t be saying this, but I kind of want her to get voted off so I can sign her, she’s beyond the talent that’s supposed to be there. I think she’s overqualified, I really do.”
“She’s only 16. Like, I’ve been around a lot of superstars. I haven’t seen anyone at that age sing like that.”
Akon earned several Grammy nominations and have various songs at the top on the Billboard 100 charts; with Billboard ranking him No. 6 for the Top Digital Songs Artists of the decade. Akon’s record label is Kon Live Distribution under Interscope Records.
If Jessica wins the American Idol competition, a record deal is part of her prize, so there may be no way Akon could get her to sign another contract simultaneously with his record label.
Jessica Sanchez has, undoubtedly, huge international following as millions of fans around the world root for her among the Top 5 American Idol hopefuls for the last few weeks. On May 2, the Top 5 remaining idols will perform British-themed songs.
The following day on May 3, the American Idol Results Show would air to announce the Bottom 3, and the contestant who would be eliminated.
