BTS-ARMY Coined Words and Phrases

Since the debut of BTS, the biggest artists in the world, on June 13,2013, BTS and ARMY have coined new terms and phrases.

The ingenious BTS members and their, equally, fecund-minded fan base called A.R.M.Y. have enough words to launch a new dictionary.

Here are a few of the BTS-ARMY words and phrases that they have invented

1. Borahae

This word was created by BTS’ member Kim Taehyung (V) in 2016. Borahae is a combination of two Korean words: bora (violet) and saranghae (I love you).

He said that the last color of the rainbow is purple, hence, the term BORAHAE indicates a love that is eternal and long lasting.

Since then, BTS and ARMY use this often as a term to express their undying love for one another.

2. Trusfrated

This is a word coined by the youngest BTS member, Jungkook, he was still studying English and he said this to express his frustration.

Some ARMYs then used the word to express their frustration as well.

3. “I know movie, but I don’t know movie name.”

Jungkook is legendary for giving replies like this. Jungkook said this when a TV host asked the member’s their favorite movies. Jungkook replied: “I know movie, but I don’t know movie name.”

Since then, this verse crops up often between ARMYs to break the ice.

A similar one is also JK’s “I know her face but I don’t know her name,” when asked about his favorite American actress.

4. “Do you know BTS?”

This question was often asked by BTS’ eldest member, Jin. He does not ask it often now though, as almost everyone knows BTS.

But this question is still an inside joke for BTS and ARMY.

5. Jungshook

This term expresses shock or of being “shook”. It’s a combination of Jungkook’s name and the word “shook.”

The meme, tweet, or message usually comes with a picture of Jungkook being wide-eyed with surprise, shock, or wonder.

6. World Wide Handsome (WWH)

World Wide Handsome is the iconic tag of Jin, BTS’ eldest member. Jin coined the term when his face earned the Golden Ratio label from a plastic surgeon.

The Golden Ratio (1:1.618) is the distance between the ears and the hairline and chin. Jin’s facial measurement is 1:1.618, which is exactly the same as the Golden Ratio’s measurements.

7. Infires

Suga was asked the question: “What inspires you to write lyrics?” And he says, “insfires?”

Then Jungkook says, “infires,” and together they repeated the word, even when RM corrected their pronounciation.

It’s a funny segment in which BTS’ humor came to the fore. They are hilarious when they are together.

8. “Hey, stob it.”

The eldest member, Jin, said this when he was trying to tell Jimin to stop.

As usual, they were clowning and teasing each other about their language skills. It’s one of the funniest BTS videos.

Watch the video below.

9. Excuse me, sir

This is a phrase used by ARMYs whenever BTS members strike a sexy pic, a glamorous look, or a fascinating post that’s worth a mention.

Examples of these “Excuse me, sir” posts are:

“Excuse me sir, but you’ll get cold without a shirt on.”
“Excuse me sir, but your abs are showing.”
“Excuse me sir, but there is a Namjoon.”

10. Lachimolala

Lachimolala originated from a Run, BTS game show where the members would mouth words for the others to guess.

The original word was “carbonara”, but no matter how J-Hope formed the syllables with his mouth, Jimin cannot guess the word correctly.

At first, Jimin said “Tony Montana” but eventually ended with “lachimolala” afterwards.

It was, as usual, a funny run episode that ARMYs enjoyed and remembered up to this day.

11. NJFAO

NJFAO came from the acronym LMFAO, (Laughing My Freaking Ass Off).

RM (Namjoon) created NJFAO in place of LMFAO. RM is aware that JK is his fan and he returned the admiration by giving their youngest member the nickname, “Golden Maknae”, becuase JK can do almost anything.

Reportedly, NJFAO means Namjoon, Jungkook, Forever And Onwards.

12. “Ain’t no fish inside”

This phrase was coined by Namjoon when he was trying to explain what bungeoppang was all about to international ARMYs.

Bungeoppang is a Korean fish-shaped pastry that is stuffed with sweetened red bean paste.

Although the pastry is fish-shaped it does not contain any fish ingredient.

13. “Army Forever, Bangtan Forever”

This is a phrase created by Jungkook to express his everlasting love for ARMYs.

Its Korean translation is:

아미 포에버 방탄 포에버
ami po-ebeo bangtan po-ebeo

Jungkook shortened the phrase to “AMPO, BANGPO”, which is now a treasured slogan with ARMYs.

14. “Dream, Smile, Shine”

This verse sometimes accompanies many official BigHit and Bangtan announcements or logos.

It also became the motivating words for the fandom.

15. “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

This phrase is one of BTS’ slogans since their debut back in 2013, and they have been constantly using it since then.

ARMYs encourage their fellow ARMYs using this phrase as well. And it always works like magic.

Every ARMY always cooperates with whatever activity the fandom is supporting, but this phrase motivates them more to give their utmost.

16. “And If I Am?”

A story was recounted about Jungkook being asked by someone:

“Are you Jeon Jungkook?”

And he reportedly replied:

“And if I am?”

The Golden Maknae has created many iconic phrases that ARMYs love and treasure.

There are still hundreds of words and phrases coined by the BTS members and ARMY, especially in their “Run, BTS” episodes.

But, I only presented the most common verses I have encountered.
