New York University has offered free tuition to all its medical students on August 16, 2018. This news seems too good to be true but it is. The school is the first to offer free tuition among the top 10 medical schools in the U.S.
And it covers the full cost of tuition amounting to $55,018, for this year. Another good thing about this scholarship is that every student is eligible regardless of his academic performance and financial status.
The dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health, Robert Grossman, stated that their goal was to help students pursue the medical field that they are passionately interested in “with as little debt as possible.”
NYU was able to raise 450 million to cover the students’ tuition fee in perpetuity. Recent studies have shown that around 70% of medical students in the U.S. graduate with huge educational debts.
Likewise, the high cost of medical school has made it beyond the reach of poor and middle-income families. This has prompted US medical schools to find a solution to this growing problem. If this continues to happen, eventually, doctors would be scarce.
NYU was the first one to offer this wonderful opportunity. Who knows? One of these scholars may discover the cure for cancer.
Nevertheless, students would have to cover their board and lodging.
