MANILA, Philippines – Michael Christian Martinez will not compete in the World Junior Championships in Bulgaria because he still has to recover from his various injuries. This was disclosed by SM Investments Corporation from its official page on Facebook on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
According to the Press Release, Michael’s doctor and coach have advised him to withdraw from the competition.
Michael Christian Martinez has earned the respect of other athletes and the world by being able to qualify for the Free Men’s Program in figure skating. He was ranked 19th among all figure skaters in the world, in the men’s category. He was the lone representative of the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
He returned to a hero’s welcome in the Philippines with millions of Filipinos rooting for him in his next competitions including the next Olympics. Financial support from the private sector has also started pouring in. Hopefully, with all these support, Michael would be able to train properly for the winter Olympics.
Michael Martinez has also been chosen as one of the best athletes featured in The Best of Sochi 2014 video.
He was also tagged by the Sochi website as the Most Supported Athlete among all athletes around the world.
The “Ice Hero” expressed his appreciation of the adulation and warm welcome people have accorded him. In the Philippines, he was like a showbiz celebrity mobbed by fans wherever he went, and like a pro, Michael Christian Martinez kept smiling and waving to his fans, perhaps, amidst his pain and discomfort.
