MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Yolanda’s winds could knock down a standing person, a Baguio resident said as the super typhoon lashed at the country on Friday.
Baguio City is not in the eye of Typhoon Yolanda but the winds are already scary, as the strongest typhoon in history makes landfall yesterday, November 8.
In the Visayas region, howling, swirling winds uprooted and broke down trees, knocked down posts and left more than 50 persons reported dead. Airports have shut down, and classes in all levels were suspended, even in some schools in Central Luzon and Metro Manila. People said that they were like inside a washing machine. The strong rains and winds of Super Typhoon Yolanda rendered zero visibility. The damage is still not assessed completely as power and communication signals are still down in many areas. Search and rescue operations are still on-going.

Typhoon Yolanda is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday afternoon, November 9, but another potential new typhoon is spotted anew.
At 5 AM today, Super Typhoon Yolanda has weakened and storm signals are lowered. According to the Official Gazette of the Philippine Government:
“Yolanda has slightly weakened as it moves toward the West Philippine Sea. At 12:00 a.m. today, the eye of Yolanda was located at 100 km West Northwest of Coron, Palawan. (12.2°N, 119.3°E). Moving west northwest at 35 kph, it is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around 2 p.m. this afternoon.”
