Sinead O’Connor gave a ‘motherly advice’ to Miley Cyrus in an open letter posted on her website, which told Miley to stop stripping, among other things. Online entertainment sites are abuzz with the news.
Sinead O’Connor, 46, is an Irish singer-songwriter who became popular in the 1980s. She won various MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy for Best Music Alternative Performance for the song “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.”
Sinead O’Connor popularized the song “Nothing Compares 2 U“, and had shaved her head during her time to defy people who want her to be sexier.
Reportedly, during Sinead O’Connor’s fame in the 1980s, she said this about Catholics:
“Genuinely I don’t mean disrespect to Catholic people because I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the Holy Spirit, all of those, but I also believe in all of them, I don’t think it cares if you call it Fred or Daisy, you know? Religion is a smokescreen; it has everybody talking to the wall.”
In 1992, Sinead O’Connor tore a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live because she thought religion was the source of “evil.”
Here’s an excerpt of the open letter for Miley Cyrus that Sinead O’Connor posted on her website:
“Dear Miley,
I wasn’t going to write this letter, but today i’ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares… So this is what I need to say… And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love.
I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping.
Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent.”
Miley Cyrus has been under fire for her twerking during her VMA performance and later on, going nude in her “Wrecking Ball” video.
Miley Cyrus has recently broken up with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth after her racy VMA performance.
After Sinead O’Connor first open letter another open letter was written in response to Miley’s reaction on Twitter ; Miley posted a picture of Sinead tearing the Pope’s picture.
