Racism still exists in the Land of the Free as 2014 Miss America winner, Nina Davuluri, the first winner of Indian Descent, gets racist tweets on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

The well-spoken and lovely Nina Davuluri, 24, has received some racist comments on Twitter but the unfazed Miss America title holder said that she is happy the organization recognizes diversity.

There were tons of supporters too, expressing their love and support.

“You are beautiful and intelligent! Don’t let hateful words tear you down because you deserve the crown.”

Some were aghast at the racist tweets, thinking that America has still some sizable number of ‘elements’ that are discriminatory, and the people of the world had thought all of America has ‘grown up.’

“Really, just read the racist tweets against the Nina Davuluri, Indian-American winner of Miss America. It is so pathetic…. what have their parents even taught these people?”

Another Twitter peep expressed her shock, Amber Sabri@AmberSabriG

“So shocked at all the hate the new Miss America is getting just because she’s of Indian decent. She was born in America…she’s American.”

From her official Twitter account, Nina Davuluri@MissAmerica, tweeted:

“Hi America, I’m so excited to celebrate my year of service with you.”

A fitting reply from a well-bred American citizen. Who is more American now?
