Nuclear power is again the concern of many people because of the Fukushima accident. Although authorities are saying that everything is under control, the Japanese people together with the rest of the world are too scared about what might happen next.

Nuclear power plant generates heat from nuclear fission. Japan, US and France are the three leading countries that use the process. Many industrialized countries are in construction for their own nuclear reactors to supply electricity to households and plants. However, in many countries, there has been a continued debate over the safety of its use. Nuclear accidents, radioactive waste disposal and health effects of the radiation emitted are just some of the concerns of people.

If the level of radiation exceeds the normal limit, people living near the nuclear power plant are exposed to life threatening conditions. Initially, there will be vomiting, dizziness and later, the quality of the cells produced will also be affected. Male sterility, respiratory distress, leukemia and other forms of cancer are just some of the possibilities.

Despite the so called “nuclear renaissance”, people are called again to think over the use of nuclear energy as a source of electricity. With decreasing supply for coal, oil and gas, proponents are again driven to revive the nuclear power industry. But with the recent Fukushima accident, this may be a reminder for the public’s waning memory of the Chernobyl and Three Mile Island that killed thousands of people; deaths due to nuclear power that should have been prevented.
