Positive Communication and its Benefits

Communication is one of the most significant discoveries of man since the beginning of time.  I speak now in a language you understand. Man learned how to communicate through symbols (written), actions, and speech.

Imagine if the gift of communication has not been instituted, then the world would be in chaos and eternal unrest. Communication though does not concern only the oral but also the written and psychomotor aspects. It is important therefore, that we communicate our thoughts and feelings in a positive manner.

What are the benefits of positive communication?

1. When a person communicates positively, it means he does this in a happy manner. His words are kind and his actions lively. These positive, physical expressions of communication increase the secretion of the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is one of the vital hormones responsible for several functions in menstruation and pregnancy.

2. A person who expresses himself in a positive manner experience lesser stress because fewer muscles are used. If fewer muscles are used then the person would be more relaxed and less fatigued.

3. When you communicate in a negative manner like when you’re angry and stressed out, you stimulate the secretion of cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone secreted by the cortex of the adrenal glands.

The over secretion of cortisol will lead to insomnia, obesity, and lack of appetite. These are all detrimental to health and well being.

4. Positive communication includes the words, thank you, please, and you’re welcome.
These are words that demonstrate to the person that you respect him and that you are acknowledging his humanity. These would not only evoke feelings of belongingness but also of appreciation.

Belongingness and appreciation are included in Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. When all of the needs are fulfilled, a person would be considered healthy and in a state of well-being.

5. The non-verbal message should also be positive. Staying close to the person when talking indicates that you are amiable and open to his ideas. These would promote better understanding. A peaceful and positive environment would attract more positive energy.

With loved ones a positive non-verbal message like hugging and embracing would generate camaraderie and more love, and as we are well aware of, love brings out the best in everyone. Even the physiological functions of the body are enhanced; the skin glows, blood circulation is increased, metabolism is unimpeded. This is because positive emotions lower the concentration of cortisol. Positive written thoughts too would have the same good effects.

6. Positive communication also promotes peace and contentment among people. You cannot stay angry with a person who talks to you in a calm, soft voice, in spite of your yelling and shouting. What better benefit you can derive from positive communication than peace and love for everyone?

The importance of positive oral communication cannot be denied especially in this computer generation where “face to face” encounters rule out non verbal cues, so go out and spread the wonder of positive communication.

Guest Post by  Nikes Alviz

USB Flash drives and hard drives are very popular nowadays. They are handy, portable and used anytime when needed. It is very practical to own one especially when you need to carry your back files so you can access them anytime.

These devices by default can be removed without the use of the “Safely Remove Device” icon on the system tray. However, some devices sometimes use disk caching to improve performance. It is necessary to use the “Safely Remove Device” icon when a device use disk caching so as not to lose important files.

But have you ever experienced safely removing your usb flash drive or hard drive then an error flags like this:

“The device ‘Generic volume’ cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later” in Windows XP or this:

in Windows Vista or Windows 7

Even you close all application, close all windows but when you try again, this annoying error message remains. This is because there is a hidden application still accessing your drive in the background.

To resolve this problem, follow this simple systematic procedure:

1. Download this free utility from a third-party website at this address:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Do not worry, this file is safe and approved directly by Microsoft.

2. Open the file from you download directory. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right click and choose “run as administrator”

3. At the main window, click “Find” and choose “Find Handle or DLL”

4. A window will appear, type in the box the drive letter of your USB mass Storage Device. For example, if your USB mass storage device is designated as drive “H:”, then type “H:” at the box provided and click “Search”

5. A list of processes will appear on the lower part of the window, find processes that are labeled as “Handle” under the TAB “PID”

6. Once the processes are identified, find the handle showing only the root drive letter of the USB storage device, for example, “H:”

7. Double click the drive letter of the handle, and it will show the process using the drive on the main window.

8. Right click the process, and choose “Close Handle” and choose “YES”. After it close the process, close the Process Explorer.
