A LOVELY SONG BY KAREN CARPENTER

You’re The One
By: Karen Carpenter

Every night, every day
You’re the one I always dream of.
Every line of your face
Is sketched so plain inside my heart.

You’ve grown so deep inside of me,
You’re everything I feel and see.
And You’re the One
You’re the One I love.

All my life, all my love
I can feel when you’re beside me.
All that’s right, all that’s wrong
Suddenly becomes so clear.

My heart has overtaken me
with feelings you awake in me.
And You’re the One
You’re the One I love.

Only you could move me enough
to believe in love one more time.
All I need to know for tomorrow
is that you’re mine, mine for a lifetime.

If our friends all around
find it hard to understand us.
You and I, understand
the other one so very well.

And that’s what I’ve been looking for,
so I keep coming back for more.
‘cos You’re the One
You’re the One I love.

You’re the One
You’re the One I Love.

Karen Carpenters’s songs tug at one’s heartstrings; vibrant and powerful, her voice gives a completely unique interpretation of the song’s lyrics.

THE SUSPECT

The night was young; the stars were strewn brilliantly in the night sky. It was a wonderful night. But it was not for me.

” Name?” the question was asked several times, and my answer came like a croak.

” Angel Palma.”

” Age?”

” 20.”

“Occupation? he was patient with me.

“Student.”

“Now I’ll ask you one more time,” his voice had an ominous threat, ” Where were you when the bomb exploded in Mendiola?”

I peered through my half closed eyes. My head ached like a thousand bulldozers had ran over it, and my ears were painfully ringing. I could barely see as the caked blood in my eyes, blurred my vision.

“How many times will I tell you, I was at home sleeping!” I wanted to scream at him, but all I could manage was a whimper.

” With no witnesses to verify your alibi?” The blow was unexpected and I doubled up in pain as bone crunched against bone.

I couldn’t breathe. I knew my lungs were ruptured. Were these the people who vowed to protect us? They were supposed to protect me from one such experience!

Two uniformed men held me up as my knees turned wobbly. There was a glint of steel from one, who was sitting to my right.

“Now one more time,” the younger, more patient man crooned.

“Where were you on the eve of July 5, 2007? Were you assembling the bomb then? Tell me…” he whispered to my ear,..cajoling me…encouraging me…to talk. But I did not know what they were talking about.

The third man, kicked me so hard, I was barely aware of the cold nuzzle of the gun pointed at my temple…”I am going to die”..I thought…”I am going to die…” and for something I am not guilty of…

I was waiting for the bullet to tear its way through…..when I heard a persistent ringing..it grew louder and louder ..until….

I jolted up in bed…breathless… my heart pounding in fear and agony…I was only dreaming! The alarm clock had “saved” me. I was wedged between the bed post and my locker that was why I was feeling the pain in my chest. LOL.. Talk about coming in late, tired and not sleeping well. It was so real and vivid, I thought it was true…

(Note: This is a work of fiction. It is my belief that creative writers should be at liberty to acquire their own style, that they are free to approach any subject the way they want to, without fear of censure about grammatical errors and correct sentence structure, etc. There should be no fast rule with regard to this style.)

MEMORIES

Photoeverywhere.co.uk

Vestiges of memories,
some vivid, some hazy,
inundates the fledgling soul,
hurting so viciously.

The soul searches a way out,
a road to salvation,
but sadly, there’s no let up
from the onslaught of the visions.

WEBS OF LOVE

Image from Clker.com

I stare blindly at the ceiling,
blinded by tears of sorrow.
seeing all, but seeing nothing,
unmindful of tomorrow.

Where has the love gone?
So professed some years ago?
I hold the bundle of joy in one,
grateful for the chance to glow.

Go now, my beloved,
follow where your heart leads you.
when you reach the ‘dead end’,
We are here -home- waiting for you.

QUOTATIONS TO PONDER ON

“Who will tell whether one happy moment of love or the joy of breathing or walking on a bright morning and smelling the fresh air, is not worth all the suffering and effort which life implies.”

From : Erich Fromm

“Love is the beauty of the soul.”
By: Saint Augustine

“I always prefer to believe the best of everybody, it saves so much trouble.”
By: Rudyard Kipling

“Remember the two benefits of failure. First, if you do fail, you learn what doesn’t work; and second, the failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach.”

“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.
It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English — up to fifty words used in correct context — no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese.”

“In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.
In science it often happens that scientists say, ‘You know that’s a really good argument; my position is mistaken,’ and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn’t happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time someting like that happened in politics or religion.”

I LIKE THIS QUOTE FROM EINSTEIN

“One of the strongest motives that lead men to art and science is escape from everyday life with its painful crudity and hopeless dreariness, from the fetters of one’s own ever-shifting desires.”

EVERLASTING LOVE?

When I see old couples still together after long years, I admire them and know in my heart how they went out through a lot to nurture that love. It is because I am a witness to the struggles of one such couple – my parents.

Mama was 21 and Papa was 24 when they got married. They were so in love with smoke in their eyes, and a sweet song in their hearts and had vowed “to LOVE each other till death will they part”.

One year after, I was born… and the problems started to appear. The added responsibility of taking care of me, had left them very little time for themselves. They love each other though and had always tried to find solutions to their problems. Yes, they had numerous fights too; about numerous things – but in the end – they had always forgave and understood each other.

Years passed and the family grew. We became 5, then 6, then 7 and then finally 12.
( a lot huh!..lol) and the problems multiplied too as the family grew. Emotional problems , financial problems (we were not filthy rich) and relationship problems came into the picture; not only with me and my siblings but with both of them. There were times , I heard them raised their voices against each other and sometimes I could hear my mother cry. These occurrences kept me too awake into the night… thinking…wondering… what might be happening inside their room.

But when morning came and I glanced at them surreptitiously during breakfast, they were talking pleasantly as if nothing happened. That would give me so much relief that I would go to my room and cry. I was so happy, they were able to resolve their “issues”.

There were times though, that the “fight” lasted for days, and these were the days that I prayed hard and long. In spite of these all, their love always triumphed. They always resolved their problems – our problems. I could see that they had learned to forgive and to compromise. They had learned to focus on the nobleness of their love and not on their shortcomings.

When I see them now, still sweet to each other – a 76 yr old man and a 73 yr. old woman holding hands – I smile and recall the trials and tribulations they went through to be able to stay together. They fought hard for their love, even when it seemed the love has gone. They had been against insurmountable odds and they had emerged victors. Because of this, their love grew more and transcended their human frailty and defects.

To mama and papa. I salute both of you.

THE UNCERTAIN UNCERTAINTY

Image from: Free-clipart-pictures.net

The uncertainty of something makes us hesitate to move forward. If we want to succeed, we should be courageous enough to take risks. Life is about taking risks. If we refuse to take risks, we would be wondering forever if we could have succeeded or not.

Take this specific example: Let’s say your teacher encouraged you to join a Science Quiz Contest. You have never joined any competition before and it would be the first time for you, if you did. You felt that you were not ready yet, so you had refused to take the chance. The question will remain forever in your mind: “Would you have won, if you took the risk?” , and this will bug you for as long as you can recall that event. However, if you took the risk then – whether you succeeded or not – would not really matter. What counts was that you were brave enough to face the challenge.

Take the risk, give it your BEST shot and then cross your fingers(grin). Those who are willing to do this are the ones who usually make it to the top.

TOO OLD FOR BLOGGING?

I first learned about blogging three months ago, while researching on line about my paper. I was looking into the possibility of introducing the “website connection” into my “work” and discovered blogger.com instead. “Create your own blog for free!” it said; so I click on it and then followed the prompts to open my first blog. That was relatively easy, I thought then. I discovered later however; that it was useless creating a blog if no one gets to read it. My blog does not even appear in the search engine…so I ran for help to google search and typed “how to add your URL to google search” and ” search optimization”. The instructions for optimization were more difficult than I had thought, because I did not understand computer “lingo”. It talked about, HTML, widgets, RSS feeds, body tags, etc. There was an instruction about editing the HTML of my template. I tried at least 15 times to place the “meta tag” for the verification code in my HTML, before I could do it right. In fact, I was ready to give up. I am thankful now that I did not, because on the next attempt – I made it…Halleluyah!

Eventually I learned how to download pictures, attach widgets (what is a widget?…lol), insert links, and change templates with ease. Chat fed, an entrecard member suggested that I use banners/flags and I don’t know exactly what he means. (Thanks) But the search engine is there so I will do my research again. I am learning while I am blogging. I wonder if there are people out there (my age) who still blog??? ( Am I too old to blog?…thinking out loud)

Anyway; indeed, experience is the best teacher! and Truly, patience is a virtue!

THE MONKEY

From: All free clipart.com

I remember a story related to me in grade school about how greed could cause one’s downfall.

One day, a greedy monkey came across a squirrel in the forest. He saw that the squirrel had an armful of delicious peanuts. The monkey asked for one and the squirrel was generous enough to share some nuts with him. The monkey however; had other plans; he wanted all the nuts for himself. He grabbed them and climbed the tree – out of reach from the squirrel. In the monkey’s haste, one nut fell and rolled to the ground. Instead of leaving that ONE nut for the poor squirrel, he still descended to retrieve it. Just as soon as he was down on the ground, a roaring lion shot past the squirrel and attacked him.

End of story.

Moral of the story : “Take only what you really need and leave some for others.”
